London Olympics' Course Designer at Bramham


Sue Benson is the official Cross Country Course Designer for Bramham Horse Trials. She has been designing since 1993 and has been with Bramham for nine years.

As an International Event Rider her career spanned twenty years during which time she represented Great Britain in three European Championships winning two team silver medals and one team gold medal. Individually she won both the British Open and Novice Championships. She placed 2nd at Badminton in 1979 and 5th in 1981. Some of her greatest achievements were made abroad where she won the U.S. Championships in Massachusetts in 1973 and finished 2nd when defending her title two years later. Having completed Badminton thirteen times on seven different horses, as well as finishing 3rd and 7th at Burghley, Sue reluctantly retired from competing at Horse Trials in 1996.

As a designer her many positions have included Gatcombe Park CIC ***, Thirlestane Castle CCI***, Boekelo (Holland) CCI*** and the Pan American Games CCI***in Brazil. She is the Official Course Designer for the 2012 London Olympics, which will be held in Greenwich Park, London.
